Stallions

Ellister Islay Forester is a 5yo stallion by Fyfedene out of Tiegandene.

Forester has superb paces and although thoroughly laid back and gentle with his mares, his paces are active, straight and a delight to watch. He will be covering a number of mares this season, having already produced one beautiful mouse dun colt in 2010 and yellow dun colt in 2011.

Below: Glenbanchor MacGillie Dubh, by Moss-side Iain Mor out of Glenbanchor Lady Fiona.

We sold Gillie to Hazel and Lisa Lundie at the o'Lundie Crags Stud last autumn, so that the could begin his career in the show ring. He's now a 4yo and very nearly 14 hands, with lovely even and straight paces and another superb temperament.

We have two lovely foals from Gille: Juniper- a filly born in 2010 to Tamaradene and Angus Mor, a colt born in 2011 to Tiegandene.

However our first stallion was Claymore Duisky by Carse Macara - a fantastic pony with an amazing temperament, who we bought from the Claymore Stud on Lismore Island as a weanling.

By Claymore Duisky, we bred:

Ellister Islay Shade (x Denmill Moss Rose)

Ellister Islay Candy (x Gracedene)

Ellister Islay Piper (x Coulmore Pearl)

Very sadly, we lost our senior stallion Whitefield King Duncan at the end of January 2011. He was rising 16 years old.

We believe poachers startled him - there are deep hoofprints that clearly show this - very near to a small area of boggy ground in his 35 acres of moorland.  Being so close to the boggy area, he was unable to stop in time; he'd lived in this area for the past ten years and knew it well.  There, we believe that his heart succumbed to the shock.  What a tragic end for a beautiful pony.

Duncan had exceptional  paces - beautifully balanced and his progeny inherit these, along with his lovely head and small, pony ears.

He was a very easy pony, accepting the coming and going of his mares with never a complaint !  He always came to call, at a canter, whatever part of his moorland territory he happened to be in.

Another stallion we have used in the past is Nashend Buzzard, who is by Balmoral Dee out of Nashend Sabine.

Buzzard is another stallion with a superb temperament - we've been exceptionally lucky with our stallions - and he was sold to the Lismore Stud; he is currently for sale.

Buzzard has bred several nice foals for us:

Ellister Islay Honey

Ellister Islay Sea Storm

Ellister Islay Summer Thyme

Ellister Islay Mist

Ellister Islay Sundance

Two of Duisky's foals, Candy and Shade are breeding on Islay at the Lochindaal Stud.
